Welcome to my personal website. I have been a painter and poet all my life. I am very influenced by Opera and Poetry, Chinese, Asian, Islamic and Japanese Art, and of course American Art, (in particular the abstract expressionist painters.) I love all art obviously. My paintings are primarily abstract and non-objective in nature, relying on harmony, unity, and the elements of art verses drawing objects from a discernible reality. I also enjoy portraiture and landscape and I study from the figure occassionally, which I do to keep the edge and skill intact. I am represented by Portland Classic Gallery in Portland, Oregon and I also show my work in other galleries across the nation. I am affiliated with The Lexington Art League in Lexington, Ky. I show with them several times a year, and I am a member of the Cave Run Arts Association in Morehead, Ky. My paintings have won honorable mention and first place awards in Juried Shows. People refer to me sometimes as "The Appalachian Visionary." People tend to see me as obssessed, but I guess that is okay because admittedly I am. I just really, really love to paint. I do care very deeply about my work. It is my great passion, and my poetry and art has always been my salvation. My paintings are now in several important private and corporate collections across the country. I am married to the poet George Eklund (very happily married) and I like spending time with my family and cats when I am not painting. I love lifting weights, running, and playing basketball, actually any sport I love except golf. I am a published poet. I write very often about all my work and sometimes about other poets and artists work. I also love to cook. I am pretty simple really, although my husband would argue against that, and tell you I am not from Olive Hill. I just love to be very creative all the time, and tend to be only understood by other creative individuals. I was raised on a large 2,000 acre tobacco farm in Olive Hill, Ky, where I still live today, which is how I acquired the work ethic I am very proud of. I also am practicing to be a ventroloquist, which has always fascinated me, (I love Charlie McCarthy!) in my spare, very spare time away from my painting. Please visit my Notes & Shows page to get an inside look into the process and to read my poetry. You can view more of my work by going into my gallery, or you may read more about me in the About section. Notes on pricing: Please note that I now sell my paintings that are on my website exclusively through the galleries that represent me/or show my work. I do sell work right out of my studio, where all of my drawings and paintings are accessible and made available to view. I sell work at all the same prices, whether you buy it from me or from a gallery, and this is to avoid people getting feelings hurt if they would find another person got a better deal. My prices are consistent across the globe, and are not flaky. While the majority of my artwork is abstract, please note that my prices are not. The prices of my works are fairly based on size and what I have sold them for before. The prices you can expect are in the lower thousand range (1,2,3 thousand), with the larger paintings being the more expensive obviously. I hope you find my artwork profound and moving, and secretly I hope that it may change your life forever.
